Cowal Bute And Lomond Rural Crime Update

Dear Member,

As we head into Easter Break, the lambing season is well in progress. Police Scotland request that this be borne in mind when walking dogs near livestock. Fields with livestock within should be avoided at all times and if walking nearby, dogs should be controlled as to prevent worrying. The population of Argyll swells during holiday season and with that comes additional risks of Livestock Worrying from those from areas where awareness levels are not the same.
Please take the time to educate but also report all instances of attacks or worrying to the Police on 101.

I receive the National Rural Crime Bulletin on a daily basis and it should be noted that there would appear to be an increase in the thefts of GPS systems from agricultural machinery. If you have GPS equipment on your ATV, Tractor or any other implement - please take relevant precautions.

In general, rural crime across Scotland continues to be themed around the theft of Commercial Plant, Hand Power Tools, All Terrain Vehicles and Fuel. Please continue to keep security measures at an optimum and if you require any advice - please speak to your local Police Officer.

In the past week I have also had information from a local private Forestry Enterprise regarding a number of matters including the disappearance of cameras, entry to Forestry Machinery and potential poaching.

If you work in or use the forests of Argyll for recreation and see anything out of place - please contact 101 and report immediately. That way we can circulate information around Rural Watch effectively to you all, being our eyes and ears on the ground.

Tomorrow sees the launch of Police Scotland's latest Doorstep Crime initiative - "Shut Out Scammers" - SOS - with the advice circled around Cold Calling and Household Scams. If you are in any doubt about someone's identification at your door or on the phone - say "No Thanks" and call 101.

Have a safe and enjoyable Easter
